Promotional material

As the date to my leaving ITV and launching my own business got closer I realised I need to produce some sort of promo material. But what kind of thing to make? I wanted something printed something that people would keep, it needed to stand apart from the usual postcard that photographers send and that picture editor and art buyers must get in the hundreds. I enlisted the help of my good friend and talented graphic designer Matthew Holton and between us came up with the idea of producing 3 different limited edition posters designs that were stamped with my logo and numbered. I would send one poster with a information card to as many people as possible and hopefully give something that would keep on their desks… maybe even contact me to get the other 2 and ultimately commission me. It’s early days yet but hopefully this along with a few other marketing pieces will help raise my profile and expand my client list.

Independent Shopkeepers

Over the past year I have slowly been shooting a project on independent shopkeepers in Greater Manchester in a response to the growing number of chain stores taking hold of our high streets. I made a concerted effort to shoot a range of shops in different areas with people of varying backgrounds and ethnicities. The one thing that all these shopkeepers have in common is their closeness to the community in which they work… they know their customers on first name terms, exactly what produce or service they require without even asking and round off the whole experience with a smile and a conversation. In a society in which 1 in 4 transactions is with Tesco we should be mourning the decline of these independent, local stores and their place in our communities.

Just Rosie – Behind the Scenes Video

This behind the scenes video was shot as part of the ‘Just Rosie’ project I worked on earlier in the year, it was a really hectic day shooting model portfolios for Helen Flannagan and Candy McCullock for use on screen and for press…. in the end we did 10 different looks for each of them, a mad busy day but really fun. It was all shot in the really cool daylight studio at Slaughter House studios

Lumiere Festival, Durham

We decided to make the drive from Manchester to Durham last night to see the Lumiere festival, we drove through dense fog at 50mph for what seemed like days to arrive in a cold misty Durham, it was so worth it though. Artichoke (the event producers) had put on a breath taking festival, with the help of many talented arts groups and individuals including Comapagnie Carabosse whose amazing fire sculptures we had previously seen during an event in Manchester’s Platt fields. Durham is a beautiful city and what the organisers had achieved was something else, everywhere you turned was another magical sight. As a photographer who loves shooting nightscapes this festival was right up my street and I have returned with some stunning images, although I have to stress that these images are of other peoples art work and their beauty is down to these individuals… all I did was to capture the atmosphere as best I could. Snowing up Coronation Street

It’s that time of year again and on Coronation Street they have been preparing to shoot their Christmas episodes, and of course as it’s Christmas it needs to be snowy. I was there this week to see the Real SFX guys laying snow, these are the team that did all the special effects for the 50th episodes and work on big shows like Doctor Who and Torchwood. Danny Hargreaves and his team worked hard for days to create the effect, spraying a mixture of paper mulch combined with water on the roofs, pavements and trees… anywhere that snow would naturally settle. I think you’ll agree that the effect is spectacular, it even felt cold just standing there. I’m just glad it’s not me who will be clearing it all up.

Just Rosie fashion shoot

I was very excited when asked to shoot the portfolio shots for ITV’s ‘Just Rosie’, an series of 3 online webisodes that is soon to be aired on ITV2. We had a day to shoot as many different looks for both the girls, images for their online portfolios, images for use in the episodes and some for press, some serious and some silly… it was a fun but crazily busy day. Shoot Helen in one look followed by Candy, then while the girls changed look we would re-light then start again until we had 10 looks for each of them. Both girls are a pleasure to work with, the images look fab and I loved every hectic moment of the day!! You can see a selection of images and of course the episodes by clicking the link below.
