Artists Biography

Rob Evans, born and raised in Newcastle upon Tyne, began taking photographs at an early age. It was a hobby that would turn to obsession while studying at Newcastle College; in 2001 he graduated with a BA (hons) from Blackpool and Fylde College and was commended by Creative Review in their annual ‘Best of the Shows’ feature.

Rob developed a passion and aptitude for lighting during his time as lighting assistant at Cosgrove Hall films whilst working with a few exceptional lighting/cameramen. Moving to Vancouver for a period Rob grounded his photography skills working with some of Canada’s top fashion and advertising photographers. Returning to the UK with a body of work that would both gain him 2nd place at the S.U.N 2009 awards (northern based photography prize) and the enviable job as Coronation Street’s official photographer. Over the past 3 years Rob has established himself as a talented portrait and Television photographer, working with some of the top names in the industry and being widely published in various magazine, newspapers and all over the web.

Inspired by the glamorous Hollywood imagery of the 40’s and 50’s and as part of Coronation Street’s 50th Anniversary celebrations Rob produced the ‘Behind the Street’ exhibition. A series of stunning cast portraits illustrating the people behind the characters they portray, on the street that is their workplace.The exhibition opened in February 2011 at Manchester’s Generation Pop Gallery and culminated in a charity auction in which all 20 photographs were sold raising £8600 for the Coronation Street’s 50th Anniversary Appeal.

Rob is due to exhibit in New York City’s Umbrella Arts Gallery as part of Meatyard Arts up coming group show. Meatyard is an art collective and a vehicle for the promotion and discussion of photography art practice. Opening on 23rd June 2011 ‘Surveys From A Small Island will include 2 images from Rob’s new series ‘Vietnam’.
